Change of Direction
These
routine are ones I've "borrowed" from Chris Laundy.
It's
a great one for getting your players to practice their
Change of direction
Sprinting
Body balance on landing
Throwing
Catching
There
is so much you can get your players to do with this routine.
Routine 1
1. Land 1-2 (left or right foot first) with NO turn and pass
the ball back to the Feeder F
2. Land on the right foot and turn the long way round
and pass the ball back to W2
3. Land on the right foot and turn inwards and pass the
ball back to W2
4. Get them to go out ot their left, with similar coaching
points
Routine
2
1. This is where the worker changes direction and receives
the ball back where she started from
2. She can either turn inwards or outwards using
right foot as the pivot, when going out to her right
3. Land on the left foot when receiving the ball and turn
and pass to W2

Routine
3
1. This is where the worker changes direction twice and receives
the ball at the second dot
2. Again you can stipulate which foot she uses to change direction
and which foot she should land on
3. Land on the left foot when receiving the ball and turn
and pass to W2, either turning inwards or outwards
Routine
4
1. This is where the worker changes direction three times
and receives the ball in the middle
2. Again you can stipulate which foot she uses to change direction
and which foot she should land on
3. She can either turn when catching the ball, or pass it
back to F
4. She can dodge before cutting back into middle
Things to look out for
How does the player use her arms? Does she hang them out to
dry, or does she use them to really sprint hard?
Which foot does she land/pivot on. Is there a better one?
Is the ball thrown into space?
Does the athlete change direction smoothly?
How quickly does she recover once she's caught the ball?
What type of pass do they use?
Make them go out left as well as their right. Do they favour
one side?
What dictates which way round the player goes when she catches
the ball?
