Report
from Nicole Pollock from the
South Region round of the
National Schools Tournament
on 30th January 2010,
at the Kingsmead Netball Centre, High Wycombe.
"On Saturday 30th January, Sarah Bull
and I played for the
Thornden School U16's in the South Region round of the National
Schools Competition.
It was a really thrilling and exhilerating tournament despite
the freezing weather. We played a total of eight matches,
seven minutes each way and the tournament went on all day.
I would say our greatest match was the semi-finals as it was the
most gripping and it was the first match in which we played as
a proper team. At the end of full time, we were drawing,
so we went on to play two minutes each way extra time. It
was at this point where we all realised how much we wanted to
win (especially the year 11's as it was their last year).
At the end of extra time we had won 4-0 and completely outplayed
them. We felt ecstatic! Although we did not win the
tournament, we came runners up and therefore are
through to represent the South Region (which was our ultimate
aim) in the finals of the National Schools Tournament to
be held at Roedean School on March 20th".
Congratulations
to Nicole and Sarah, and we wish Thorden
all the very best in the finals.
64
of our Juniors coached by TeamBath Coaches!!
Stacey
and Alicia from TeamBath came to our Club on Monday 4th January,
and ran 3 super training sessions for our
U11's 6-7pm
U13's 7-8pm
U15's 8-9pm
Crestwood College Sports Hall,

is a member of the England Senior Squad.
Alicia

The
sessions concentrated mostly on defensive work, with the emphasis
on "looking for the ball - going for that interception".
At the end of the sessions the players were asked what they would
take away from the evening. Here are some of them:-
"Challenge yourself"
"Be dynamic in both defence and attack"
" Not allow your opponent the time to react, ie get to the
ball before they do".
Jilly
our Chairman said
"I'm sure you will agree it was a fantastic
evening and all of us learnt a great deal from their coaching,
intensity of workrate and lots of their tips that they gave us".
A
great evening and many, many thanks to Alicia and Stacey for coming
down to work with us.

All Hampshire league games are played at Basingstoke and matches
will be at 10.30am or 12 noon (or both dependent on number
of entries). All provisional dates are published below but
final dates used will be dependent on the number of entries. (NB

COSTS
FOR NEXT TERM
In these very difficult financial times, we have seriously reviewed
our training costs and whilst we have increased the amount of
training times for many individuals, we have strived to keep our
costs to the minimum .
Here are the subs as follows:
1 hour of training = £22.75 per term (U10s, U11s)
1.25 hours of training = £29.00 per term (U15s)
1.5 hours of training= £34.00 per term (U13s)
2 hours of training = £45.50 (U14s and U16s) per term
In return, we will be asking you for your help with fund raising.
As Sue Hawkins our England coach says "we give a lot but
we expect a lot back". Some of you will be attending
2 sessions. If this is the case add up the 2 figures. If
you have a second daughter who also attends training,
then please add up the 2 training costs then deduct £6.00
for your final total. If you have a third daughter, add
up the training costs and deduct £12 from the final total.
Any other anomalies - please phone me!
For ease of administration, if you are able to email your application
form to me and post your subs (post dated to September) this would
be a great help. Alternatively, please bring your subs
to your first training session (cheques please where possible
payable Swan Centre Netball Club with your daughter's name written
on the back with a breakdown of the subs) together
with your completed application form which is attached.
U15s/U16s to bring their subs on 15th September
.Remember, if anyone has any problems in terms of finances please
don't hesitate to contact me.
MATCH FEES
This is £1.50 for each player to be paid on the day of each
match - without fail! This covers umpiring costs.
In addition, players playing in Basingstoke may need to affiliate
to England Netball (approx cost £18) but we are awaiting
for clarification of this and will let you know in due course.
You are responsible for getting your daughter to and from Basingstoke
and if you are unable to help with lifts then it's only fair that
you contribute towards petrol costs - more tba.
That's
it for now folks.
Please contact me if you have any queries or if we have missed
anything.
Kind regards,
Jilly Kennett
