UPDATE No.12

Hi everyone - happy hols!!

Hope you have all not been fooled by the met office and managed to find yourself some sunshine since we all met at our AGM in July.

TRAINING
We are restarting training at WYVERN school this coming Thursday 6th August between 7-9pm for all.
This will be the case for the whole of August before we return to
Crestwood
on Thursday 3rd September (goody!!) - times tba.

We are nearly there with sorting out the teams and hopefully will be in a position to let you know your squads by 13th August which will give us plenty of time to practise together in our new teams prior to the start of the season at the beginning of September. We will forward you the Saturday fixture list as soon as it becomes available.

SOUTH REGION FIXTURES
These dates are now on the website for your diaries. All home matches will be at Crestwood
ko at 12.30pm and you are very welcome to come along and support our team.

AFFILIATION
Your affiliation now needs to be renewed in good time for the new season. Please can you post your cheques payable to Swan Centre Netball Club to
Vicky Thompson, 322 Hursley Road, Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh, SO53 5PH

clearly stating on the back of the cheque who the affiliation is for.
The cost for this year is £33.50 for those of you over 18 as of 1st September 2009 and £22.50 for those of you under 18 as of 1st September 2009. As every other club in the country will shortly be affiliating it is important that we get ours done as early as possible as historically we know there have been many problems with the volumes of people trying to do this - so please help Vicky to help you and get your cheques to her asap!!!!!!!

APPLICATION FORMS
I have attached an application form (to my text message) for both U18 and over 18's which should be completed and brought to training on Thursday or as soon as you are back from hols.

FIRST AID COURSE
There is an England Netball First Aid Course being held on 31st October. Let me know if you are interested and we'll see if we can help with the funding.

KIT
Just a reminder that our new kit for the season is blue tops and cherry skirts so if you do not have either of these, please contact
Jane Sault
, email: sault64@ntlworld.com, or 07717 803 232.
This means that our white tops will no longer be used. If you are happy to donate yours (as our Juniors will be using them for one more season) then please bring your top to training and give to Jilly or Rose.
We particularly need size 10 tops. Thanks in advance.

In addition, if you still have in your garage, behind the sofa, in the shed/conservatory any items of Swan kit
e.g. bibs, balls, first aid kit, ball bags, spare skirts etc etc from last season - please bring along on Thursday so we don't have to spend any unnecessary funds replacing things - thanks for this.

Similarly, those players who are moving on to pastures new, we would be happy to buy back your Swan Track suit, blue top and latest cherry skirt. Again, please speak to Jane about this.

That's it for starters - they'll be lots more coming in the next few weeks so apologies if your mailbox gets a bit full with Swannie info!!!!

UPDATE No.8

Hi everyone,
Pontins
We have to pay the full amount to Pontins very soon so we really need to know who is coming along to join our annual outing to Brean Sands between Friday 15th - Sunday 17th May. Cost is £30 (slight increase due to type of chalets). Please can captains (or designated person) let me know by Thursday 5th March who is coming along from their team. Could players please help and email captains (or designated person) their response either way. Cheques will be needed no later than THURSDAY 12TH MARCH and made payable to Swan Centre Netball Club and hand to Rose or myself.

Kit
As you know we are updating our kit and our South Region teams look smashing in their new dresses with both teams showing off their new kit when playing friendlies against the Navy tomorrow evening in Portsmouth.

Our new tops have now arrived and are ready to be collected from Yvonne. She will be available to do this from 6.30pm until 7.00pm (before going to her training) each Thursday evening (starting this week) in the reception of the sports hall. Alternatively, you can email her on yvonne@vearbuilding.co.uk and arrange to pick it up on Saturdays (with your payment).

Tops cost just £10 (50% subsidised from the Club) and cheques to be made payable please to Swan Centre Netball Club. If you are giving cash, please ensure it's in an envelope with your name on the outside. No tops will be issued without payment.

Our tops are for next year's netball though it would be great if we could have them for Pontins. We are just awaiting the bibs for these (which are smaller than our current patch bibs) which are due in the next few weeks. If anyone has not ordered a top, is new to the club and hasn't ordered yet, or somehow missed the boat then contact Yvonne asap yvonne@vearbuilding.co.uk.

Our thanks to Yvonne for all her hard work behind the scenes on the kit project!

Finally, in order to finish off our look, everyone needs to have a Swan tracksuit. Many of you will know that the problem with this is that although they are great quality, they are quite expensive and we have to have a minimum order of 30 garments. We will be looking to see if we can subsidise the cost for you and therefore will need your help with some Club fundraising to help to keep the cost down to a minimum. If anyone has any easy, effective, fun ways in which we can raise some funds, then please contact Jane Sault (alias princess) jane.sault@hampshire.pnn.police.uk with your ideas asap as we need to get this moving soonest. Your ideas could be team based or club based - all welcome!!

UPDATE No.7
TRAINING ON 5th AND 12th FEBRUARY
Unfortunately, Wyvern Sports Hall will not be available for the next 2 Thursdays due to mock exams.
We have therefore booked the sports hall at Taunton's College, Hill Lane, Southampton, SO15 5RL for the club for 5th and 12th February at the following times
Purples, Whites and Blues 6-7.30pm
Reds, Prem and Regional 7.30 - 9pm
This means everyone will get some training as we aware that the Southampton League restarts on Saturday 14th February.

Talking about snow and ice, that leads us onto......
ICE
Message from the Ambulance Service
The concept of ICE is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations.
As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during an emergency
under the name ICE - In Case of Emergency.

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients but they didn't know which number to call.
He therefore thought it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognised name for this purpose.
In an emergency, the Emergency Services /hospital staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialling the number you have stored as
ICE.
For more than one contact, simply enter ICE1, ICE2

If you would like to play in this league (but do bear in mind your Saturday and South Region/School/College/Club commitments and ensure you are not over doing it) then please ensure your £5 is in an envelope with your name clearly on the outside with cheques payable to Swan Centre Netball Club and given to Rose Boland by the deadline date.

TABLE/SCORING ACCREDITATION COURSE - NOTE FROM S REGION UMPIRING SECRETARY
"Please note that next Feb – date tbc – there will be a Table Official Course. It would be very beneficial for all teams to send at least 1 if not 2 persons to this course. EN now issue a Table Official Accreditation Card to people who attend such a course and who gain experience in Table officiating.
EN are wanting all games to have accredited officials by 2010"
If anyone would like to attend this course - bearing in mind that all South Region games will be needing this next year then please let me know asap. You do NOT have to be an umpire to attend this course - so mums/dads/supporters etc are all welcome and appreciated.

PONTINS
This year's senior Pontins is being held between Friday 15th and Sunday 17th May. Cost will be £27 per player - please ensure date is in your diary

ALL OUR 16-25 YEAR OLDS OUT THERE

Please click on the above and find out about the Youth Advisory Group that England Netball is aiming to establish at the moment.
It would be great if we could have representation on the group from the South as well as being a great experience and opportunity for a young person to get involved in. If interested please apply directly.

ENGLAND V JAMAICA - AM IS KINDLY ORGANISING THIS (THANKS SO MUCH)
Dear all,
As you’ve probably already heard, the England Netball team are playing Jamaica in a couple of weeks time and we thought it might be fun to arrange a club trip. Sadly, they’re not playing in Jamaica, but the slightly less exotic venue of the O2 arena in London. They’re playing on Sunday 22nd Feb at 4.30pm and tickets are £22 but we may manage to wangle a group discount. This doesn’t include the cost of travel but we’re looking into hiring a coach/minibus to keep the cost to a minimum. More on this shortly.
I’ve seen England play a few times and I can honestly say it’s excellent – it always makes me want to get really fit (oh, if only). So, if you’re interested, please send me an email (amlepage@btinternet.com) or text me (07795097032) by Thursday 8th January.
Hope to hear from you and Happy New Year!

ALEAXANDRA SPORTS
- came to visit us on
11th December.
As the Santa season is shortly approaching and following on from our prevention of injury theme - having the correct footwear for netball is crucial to minimise injury, so this was the ideal time for us to talk to the experts and to see whether we needed to change our footwear.

Both Alexandra Sports and Swan Netball Club were very pleased with the outcome. Good business for both of us.
Again our thanks to AS for making a specially journey to look after us.

SUE HAWKINS, Englands National Coach
is holding another of her workshops. This one is on Sunday 18th January, 3-6pm at Malling School, Maidstone, Kent, ME19 6DH. The cost of the workshop is £25 for coaches or £10 for County Academy coaches. Can you let Jilly know if you want to go.
This workshop could be similar to the one Jan Crabtree organised for the South Region back in September.

NETBALL TO WATCH
The TeamSouth NTL squad this year have 5 home fixtures, which is fantastic!! We want to ensure that these home fixtures are supported as much as possible and that the players have spectators there, cheering them on. This is an ideal opportunity for you to come and support the players and to watch Netball being played at it's best by our young players from the South.
Most of the fixtures will be at the Garrison Sports Centre in Aldershot, KO 2.30.

Their latest match was against Northern Thunder on 13th December. After a very promising start, the team weren't able to maintain the momentum and eventually lost 24 -39.
The next home game is against Leeds Carnegie on the 10th January 2009. As far as we know, the venue will be the Garrison SC, KO 2.30.

That's it for now folks - Jilly

UPDATE No. 1 - 2008/09
Hi everyone,

As we start gearing up to the beginning of the season, there's been lots going on behind the scenes -

TEAMS
We know you have been asking about which winter league team you will be in next season but unfortunately, due to affiliation monies coming in very slowly we have not been able to do this as quickly as we would have liked. As affiliation is the financial commitment to play next season, we've been unable to announce teams until this has all been received.

Special thanks to Vicky and Rose for co-ordinating all this - we're now in a position to start communicating to all:

SUBS
Please ensure that your standing order for this year has been set up from 1st August or if you are making other arrangements (i.e. cheque) to confirm to our treasurer Kerry Shields Kerry. shields@msc-europe.co.uk how you would like to pay your fees for the year. If you have yet to set up a standing order, please contact Kerry asap as this needs to be in place.

APPLICATION FORM

Many of you completed and returned your application form at the AGM but for those of you who did not do so, please see Vicky or Rose at training as they will have hard copies.

TRAINING
Just a reminder that training restarts at 6.00pm on Thursday 7th August at Wyvern School. We will shortly be putting on the website the dates of training for you.

FIXTURES
Winter league fixtures have now been circulated and starts on Saturday 13th September. Could you go through this and advise your coach of any matches you know that you will be unavailable.

KIT
Yvonne Phillips is our new kit manager or if you have any queries or if you need to order kit for the new season, please contact her on yvonne@vearbuilding.co.uk so she can get this moving for you.

SIGNATURES
One of the compulsory elements of the winter league is we have to provide a specimen signature for each player so if you haven't done so at the AGM then please can you see Rose at training on 14th August as you will be unable to play without your signature up front. There is a deadline date looming for this when all signatures have to be returned to Chris, so please ensure this is done by 14th or as soon as you return from holiday.

ALDERMAN HAMMOND TOURNAMENT

This is being held on Saturday 6th September and we will be entering your team (this will be £2 per player) so if you are unavailable please can you email Rose straight away.

Info on South Region (seniors and U19s) will follow separately (starts on 21st September).

Pheew! That's it for now folks - let me know if I've omitted anything or if you have any questions/suggestions please give me a call.

Have a fantastic season!
